The song that we related with the novel is called "Pain" by Jimmy Eat World. The connection with it is that in both the book and the song, the character has pain, but he doesn't let it bother him. Anyone can give their life away, or they can make a stand and keep living.
There is not really a connection of music with the novel, but if it were turned into a movie, there would probably be different themed music for each setting in the novel, and possibly for each animal as well as Pi himself. Also, the music would probably change due to the desperation that Pi faces, and because of the fact that Pi is so involved with all these religions, I'm sure that they would each have their own culturally significant music. Yann Martel doesn't really address music in people's lives because he is more focused on writing I believe, but I think that it could probably be inferred from everything he added in the novel, that music would be important in describing the story if it were not for his poetic writing.
